Acupuncture for Digestive Health in Castle Hill
When digestion feels off, sluggish or unsettled, it can throw off your whole day. Acupuncture would be worth looking at as a way to help things settle and move more comfortably.
Digestive issues like bloating, irregularity and discomfort are common reasons people come to see me, and they can have a few different drivers. Sometimes it's stress feeding into the gut, sometimes it's how well digestion itself is working, and often it's a mix of both.
That's part of why the same symptom can be stubborn to shift. When the actual driving factor behind it isn't looked at, the discomfort tends to keep coming back. My aim would be to work out what's behind your symptoms and support digestion from there.
You might relate to this if:
You feel bloated or heavy after eating, even after light meals
Your digestion feels sluggish, unsettled or unpredictable
Stress or busy stretches make your gut noticeably worse
Your tests have come back clear but things still don't feel right
How I approach digestion
Digestion really comes down to how well the body breaks food down and keeps it moving through. When that process turns sluggish or is easily irritated, symptoms like bloating, discomfort and irregular habits tend to follow.
A few things can throw it off. Stress is a common one, since the gut and the nervous system are closely linked, but diet, the pace of daily life, and how the digestive system itself is working all play a part. My starting point would be to work out which of these is driving your symptoms most, rather than treating every gut complaint the same way.
From there, treatment would aim to support digestion to work more smoothly and settle the irritation behind the symptoms. This is usually a mix of acupuncture and, where the belly needs warming, moxa, matched to what's driving your particular pattern.
The sections below cover the digestive complaints I see most often.

Bloating and a heavy, sluggish feeling after meals are some of the most common things people come in with. It can show up as tightness or swelling through the belly, feeling full quickly, or digestion that just feels slow to move.
What I usually see is a rounded, distended belly, and I'll check whether it feels full and stuck or empty and weak. The aim is to encourage better flow through the digestive system and, where it helps, to warm the belly so it works and moves as it should. When it's going well there's often a visible reduction in the bloating by the end of a treatment, and where stress is feeding it, easing that tends to help too.
Treatment would aim to support digestion to move more smoothly and ease the bloating and heaviness. It is commonly used to assist in the management of bloating and sluggish digestion.

IBS often brings a mix of bloating, cramping, and bowel habits that swing between one extreme and the other. It tends to flare with stress, certain foods, or for no obvious reason at all, which can make it frustrating to live with.
IBS tends to show up as either loose or constipated habits, often with cramping pain, and I usually find the severity tracks closely with stress. My focus is on settling that stress side of it while supporting any underlying weakness in the digestion. As those ease, the symptoms often start to settle.
Acupuncture is commonly used to assist in the management of IBS symptoms such as bloating, cramping and irregular bowel habits. It fits easily alongside any medical care you already have for it.

Constipation can mean going less often than feels comfortable, straining, or a sense of never fully emptying. It often travels with bloating and a sluggish, heavy feeling through the belly.
Constipation can come from a few different places, whether it's tension holding things up, a system that's run down, or too much dryness and heat. The first thing I'd hope to see change is the frequency, getting things regular, with the consistency improving from there.
Treatment would aim to support more regular, comfortable movement through the digestive system. It is commonly used to assist in the management of constipation and irregularity.

Reflux and heartburn show up as burning or discomfort behind the chest, or a sour, backed-up feeling after eating. It's often worse lying down, or after larger or later meals.
Reflux isn't all the same, so I look first at what's actually driving it. For some it's heat from rich or spicy food, and for others it flares with stress or comes from a digestion too weak to handle larger meals. Matching both the treatment and a few simple diet changes to your pattern is usually where the difference comes from.
Treatment would aim to settle the discomfort and support food to move through more comfortably. It is commonly used to assist in the management of reflux and heartburn.
What to expect
Your first visit is a 60-minute consultation. It gives us time to understand the full picture of what you're dealing with, how it behaves day to day, and what you've already tried, before beginning treatment.
From there, care is adjusted to how your body responds. Some people notice a shift within a few sessions, while longer-standing patterns usually settle more gradually. Progress is tracked through changes over the sessions rather than how you feel on any single day.
